Just when you thought you were an original!

May 21, 2008

So now that I am 27 years old and apparently wiser than I was 26, i.e. 1hr 20mins ago. What have I learn’t since I was 26 years old and 1hr 20mins?

Well I suppose the last year has been a blessing to me. I have been allowed the time to go on an antipodean adventure , which gave me more time to contemplate future plans and also time to realise that we can’t explain at times what grace is about and to be happy not knowing!

Some high points:

a) Going to OZ after five years of promising Bordy that I would be out next year. For me the Opera in a Baa Baa’s top and the game of 5-aside after a winery day trip. The fact I managed to score that night still baffles me. Before you get any ideas I scored at football and the girl is, “Bordys Bird” as his dad the mighty Silvio would say!

b) Making it to Andy’s flat unaided in New Zealand and then going for a tour that night in the car, as not to wake up jet lagged Phil. Getting to a rugby game in New Zealand where they hammered France. Dr Neill only beat me to the ground as he was going by helicopter while we had to drive for 5 hrs!

c) Skiing in June

d) The drive back to Aukland- just for the sunrise. Any of you who know me will understand that I don’t see too many sunrises!

e)The drive between Cairns and Cape Tribulation in the rain, in a fully insured Yaris. Having a coconut as a passenger on the way home and then spending a night in the “Woolshed” upon return to Cairns. It was probably more random than it sounds!

f) The All Ireland final in September. It brought a smile to my face when even Croke Park had to resort to Plan B!!

g) Ireland vs Argentina in Paris with Gilpy. Still kicking myself for taking him to the Sacre Coeur. I reckon if I hadn’t of suggested it. He could have got engaged there and wouldn’t have been on bended knee thinking about me! Ah well at least the teacups was original! (No point in mentioning Ireland I think they where somewhere else that day).

h)New Zealand vs France World Cup quarter final. Yes I did mention this pair before but in the Northern Hemisphere this time. Lets say that as a neutral it would be unfair to use words for this one. Just a night I will put into the happy place category!

i)Interviews for Uni and all the help and hospitality which made it so much easier. Especially Glasgows 25mins of mental draining. It was great to have that feeling of total mental exhaustion.

j)Getting an offer for medicine. To sit and drink whiskey with a friend on a reservoir in the rain. Followed the next day by a 52-0 hammering in rugby, coming on in the second half at back row and to smile the whole way through

k)Running from Gilford to my house.

It would be logical enough to follow with low points, but what does that achieve. The above list is only the tip of the iceberg and I think it is plain to see that the last year certainly had its blessings.

I suppose the last year has taught me that being positive is easier than negative and that some people are just separate from the rest of the world. For their help, friendship and having a general samaritan viewpoint to life , I say thanks!
